ASRS makes storing and accessing pallets more efficient by reducing the labor to complete product storage and retrieval. It has a bi-directional cart that travels a track to easily access pallets regardless of how deep or high they are stored. What is ASRS racking?
Automated storage and retrieval systems are technology-driven systems that you install at your warehouse or storage facility to reduce the need for picking pallets manually. There are a variety of types available and they have almost infinite customization possibilities. They help to minimize safety incidents, product damage and human error as well as eliminate the need for your team to spend their valuable time transporting product.
How does a shuttle work?
A pallet arrives via conveyor at the Vertical Transfer Unit (VTU) pick-up station. Under the direction of state-of-the-art CS software -Â The pallet is assigned to a storage location based on rules set in a WMS system.
It is then transferred, via the VTU, to the correct level of storage where the pre-positioned shuttle unit is already waiting.
The shuttle proceeds to travel down the cross-travel aisle and positions itself, directly in front of the assigned storage tunnel.
The shuttle then translates from cross-travel mode, into lane storage mode, in one single simple action, utilizing an electro-mechanical mechanism.
Then, the shuttle travels down the storage tunnel and deposits the pallet in the next position.
