Creative Racking Design Increases Storage Capacity

The largest tire and automotive services retailer in Nebraska was in the process of constructing its new headquarters, including a 14,000 square foot warehouse facility.

The company needed storage for 24,000 tires.  However, the original warehouse layout was too narrow to accomplish the goal, so the company's leadership team reached out to Riekes for help.

Together, we designed a warehouse layout to accommodate and exceed the company's storage and growth goals.

INITIAL CHALLENGE

A tire company needed to build a new 14,000 squre foot warehouse.  They set a goal to expand storage to 24,00 tires in the warehouse, but the facility layout was too narrow to accomplish the company's plan within the designated space.  That's when they reached out to Riekes for help.

OUR SOLUTION

Riekes designed a warehouse layout that would not only provide storage for the required 24,000 tires, but also capacity for an additional 1,500 tires.  To accomplish this, the customer would use a new racking system where tires are selected off the rack using order selectors and newly purchased Yale forklifts.

THE RESULTS

Storage capacity increased more than 83% from the previous facility and 6% more than the new goal, resulting in a total capacity of 25,434 tires.  The racking system was completed in October and Riekes had it operational in two weeks.  In addition, overall productivity increased and the company had room for future growth.
